| The Hague Travel Guide Edit This The best resource for sights, hotels, restaurants, bars, what to do and see A canal in the Hague A canal in the Hague Giorgio Baresi The city center is pretty, with quite a few nice government buildings , stately mansions (many owned by ambassadors and or embassies) good museums (Mauritshuis, Panorama Mesdag) of Amsterdam and Rotterdam, nor the cosy little canals of smaller Dutch towns. On a beautiful day it is especially worthwhile, because the beach resort of Scheveningen (hard to pronounce) is actually part of the city. With its Pier and Casino it is one of the most fancy beach resorts of the Netherlands. The Hague (Den Haag in Dutch) is also the seat of several international organizations, such as the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY), the International Criminal Court (ICC), and the International Court of Justice (ICJ), all associated with the United Nations. These give a constant international presence to The Hague. _________Sights Edit This As the Hague hosts the Dutch government, it is also the residence of a lot of national and international organisations. Governmental like the Binnenhof and the residences of the Queen, international like the many ambassies, the Peace Palace and even the UN International Tribunal. Located right on the beach boulevard of the Scheveningen district, it offers spectacular sculptures in an extraordinary building. It is difficult to find the museum; it is located inside a dune below the pavillion Von Wied, once upon a time a (small) royal palace. When the museum was built the city council demanded that no sand could be removed from the building site: because the dune it is built in is part of the coastal defences.
