Sydney has plenty of sights. Of course you'll have to visit the famous Sydney Bridge and the Sydney Opera House. The museums and the art galleries will keep you occupied for a few days as well. When you’re tired, relax in one of the many parks and don’t forget the Centennial Park, the largest one in Sydney. The Harbours are interesting areas. As you might know, Sydney borders water on many sides so it’s worth checking out the different aspects of the several harbours, with their own fishing markets, theme parks and water-worlds. Nearby the Sydney Harbour Bridge, visit the Rocks area where the first settlement in Australia took place and that still offers a wonderful insight into the way things were a long time ago.

Sydney is well known for its marvelous bridge that is uses by every citizen whether by foot, by car or by bike. You can even climb a part of it. It offers some fantastic views and is not strenuous. The hardest part is a climb up 100 steps of an inclined ladder. If you have a fear of heights, stay away. Otherwise, get ready for a great trip. The bridge is one if not the only one you can climb and really worth the 3 hours required. On a clear day or night you can see the Blue Mountains 80kms away, all around Sydney from both sides of the climb plus a great more..

Many of Sydney's prominent buildings and locations are located near this park, such as historical buildings of old Sydney (Hyde Park Barracks, St Mary's Cathedral, Parliament House), the green oasis of the Domain and the hedonistic, famous and infamous "queer culture" clubs and shops of Oxford Street. more..

_____________Getting Around

Travel on comfortable moden trains iaround Sydney

Travel on comfortable moden trains iaround Sydney

Mark Savige

Sydney has a very good and functional mass transportation system ranging from ferries, buses, taxies and trains.

Ferries are the most efficient and economical way to get around Sydney harbour. Make your way to Circular Quay ( get on any of the City Circle trains or any bus heading for the Opera House on Elizabeth Street or George Street). You will find a regular ferry service to all corners of the Harbour check out www.sydneyferries.info for service times and schedules. No trip to Sydney is complete without a ferry ride to Manly Beach, Taronga Park Zoo and Watsons Bay in fact it will probaly be the cheapest day trip you can make.

Trains service all of Sydney City. All trains leave from Central Station and the City Circle is the best link to get around the the City Center. Although it does not seem to be the preferred choice for travellers, a regular train service is avaliable from the Domestic and International Airports to the city (the cheap door to door transfer service seems to be a more popular option). The train network is easy to understand and all the information you will need is avaliable at www.cityrail.nsw.gov.au.

Most trains are double-deckers with plenty of space for comfortacle travel.

Taxies are easily found everywhere and they are not very expensive, while not the most economical way of getting around. Taxies are clean, modern and confortable and taxi drivers are of the usual type that you find in most big cities - politicaly opionated imigrants that is.

Buses are without a doubt the best and cheapest way to get around Sydney and in fact one of the only way if you dont have your own vehicle to get to some parts of the city such as the Sydney Northern Beaches. You can get all the timetable information at www.sydneybuses.info or head towards Wynard (Harbour Bridge end of York Street) as most buses depart and terminate from there. If you have the time take a bus trip to Palm Beach make sure you sit on the right hand side for some of the most spectacular beaches this country has to offer, just make sure you plan ahead as the return bus service to the city is not as regular.

Private Car Hire services are avaliable for all major companies from the Domestic or the International Airport terminal and most hotels.

You will be most probably flying to Australia and Sydney from overseas. There are numerous flights daily to Sydney's airport, which is just south of the bay and the city.

You should however be aware of the numerous different conditions travellers, whether on a holiday or an overseas exchange, are obligated to follow - in short the different Visas can seem like a mess, but they can be studied in detail on the website of Department of Immigration (http://www.immi.gov.au/allforms/visiting_info.htm).

Cronulla Beach

This beach is one of the longest white-sand beaches in Sydney, it is also one of the best places to go if you would like to get a tan, or go surfing as it has some of the best surfing in australia. A walk along the esplanade rewards with beautiful views of some of australia's finest coastal scenery as well as views of the city centre.

Places to go nearby

The surf cafe is one of the best places, open from very early in the morning it sells a huge breakfast for only a few dollars, and as it is based on the beach it is perfect for coming in after a long day relaxing.

Cronulla's town centre has many shops and cafes which are great for a lazy afternoon's shopping, and the train station will take you directly into central sydney in just 30 minutes.

____________Nightlife and Entertainment
Edit This
i
Sydney is known for its nightlife scene. Although there are already innumerable cafes, bars and clubs, businesses are still booming. Especially in the last few years, the gay and lesbian club circuit has taken over an increasing segment of the clubbing scene, which resulted in some of the best-known (non-exclusive) clubs. It might be an idea to check the local newspaper in order to find out what's going on during your stay in Sydney. Some bars feature live music or stand-up comedians. Otherwise, there is always a play, opera or a film to be seen. Check it out!

If you don't know where to go at the beginning and you just want to go to a few bars or lounges then go to Darling Harbour. It is always something going on there.
