Quezada Borbón was born on the 21 of may in the year
1952 in Santo Domingo. In 1965 she emigrated with her
family to the United States and there she discovered her
vocation to become a singer. There she joined the
churchchoir in the church nearby she lived and in 1975,
together with her brothers and sister, she formed her
first musical group: Milly, Jocelyn y Los Vecinos (and
the neighbours). In 1976 they recorded there first
single, thereby initiating allmost 20 years of hits, in
that time bringing merengue all over the world and
recording 24 albums. In 1996 Los Vecinos ceased to exist
as a group and Milly was out of the limelights for
allmost two years. And in that way completing a fertile
part of her live as the Queen of Merengue, and all that
time she was adored by the public national and
internacional. By her numerous appearances and hundreds
of thousands of sold records distributed all over the
world by recordcompanies as Algar Records, Baron Records,
CBS International, VO Records, Tropic Sun and Sony Music
Tropical, Milly stayed at the top of the Latin music
scene.
In 1998 Milly was rewarded with "Soberano de los
premios Casandra" and she gathered other honours
such as Best Singer, Best Appearance and Best production.
In the same year she appeared in Providence, United
States, in a concert attended by more than 25,000 people,
and for that she received the keys of the city.
In august of 1998, in the Ball Room of the Hotel Caribe
Hilton, in Puerto Rico, Milly presented her album Milly..
vive, and in october that took her, with a new show, to
the Sala Principal del Teatro Nacional and the Gran
Teatro del Cibao. In november of the same year, together
with Elvis Crespo, she appeared in the Hipódromo de
Hialeah, in Miami.
In 1999 she was rewarded with the premio Casandra in the
category of Best Show, for her production of Milly..
vive, presented in the Teatro Nacional de Santo Domingo.
In march she acted as most important personality in a
tribute to merengue which was organized by the
Smithsonian Institution, in Washington. In april she was
invited by the president of the Dominican Republic, Dr
Leonel Fernández, to perform in a concert as a welcome
for the heads of state whom assembled in Santo Domingo to
participate in "la Cumbre de Jefes de Estado del
Caribe".
Also in april 1999, Billboard awarded her in the category
Femenin Tropical Album for Milly.. vive, and in may she
was nominated in three categorys in "Our prizes",
in the city of Miami.
The comeback of Milly Quezada in the limelights, in her
new aspect as a solist, is prized with infinite applauses
and a large list of recognitions by the most important
magazines and institutes dedecaded to promote popular
music. Her work has been an important impulse to merengue
as a musicstyle, and she achieved that people all over
the world identify the tipical music and dance of the
Dominican Republic as representative for the Carribean.
