A “Pompei Expo 2009” sarà di scena tutto ciò che è espressione del Made in Italy: dal design alle strategie di marketing, dalla cultura all'arte, dalla tecnologia alla produzione, dal sapere all'artigianato, dalla moda alla musica, dallo stile all'eleganza, dai servizi alla comunicazione. L’evento, che è stato presentato il 5 aprile scorso in Conferenza stampa a Roma dall’Arcivescovo-Prelato di Pompei, S.E. Mons. Carlo Liberati, ha per tema il brano scelto da Papa Benedetto XVI per la prossima Giornata Mondiale della Gioventù, in programma a Sydney dal 12 al 21 luglio 2008 «Avrete forza dallo Spirito Santo che scenderà su di voi e mi sarete testimoni» (At 1,8). | Pompeii Travel Guide Edit This The best resource for sights, hotels, restaurants, bars, what to do and see Garden of the Unfortunates Garden of the Unfortunates Amyander 2 August 79 was a disastrous day for the city Pompeii but a very fortunate one for archeology, for on that day the outbreak of the Vesuvius volcano created one of the largest archeological sites in the world, which covers both the cities Pompeii and Herculaneum. Pompeii was one of the most important commercial centers in the Campania with a population estimated at 20.000, of which 10% died by intoxication or suffocation during the outbreak. Because the whole town was frozen in time it gives a very detailed image of life in the first century of the imperial Roman Empire. Not only that, it also gives an image of the people living there. An impressive, if somewhat grisly, site in Pompeii is a small museum where they keep the casts of dead citizens. These people were killed by the gasses erupting from the volcano and then buried by the ashes. These ashes then hardened, and left a perfect mold of the bodies, which in time decomposed. These were filled with plaster by modern day archeaologists and give us a chilling insight in the enormous tragedy that took place. Now the streets that had been deserted and forgotten under a thick layer of ashes are once again lively, but now with tourists attracted to this unique site. Walking through the streets, you can find evidence of the people who lived there everywhere. Not only (obviously) in the buildings, but especially in the painted signs outside the shops and, most charming perhaps, the graffiti on the walls. The Pompeiians were enthousiastic wall-scribblers, and (provided you know a little Latin) you can find all sorts of statements, ranging from random wisdom (Profit is happiness), to declarations of love to petty insults (Oppius, clown, thief, petty crook!). When visiting, make sure you don’t miss the House of the Tragic Poet, the House of the Vetii and the Amphitheater. The last one gives an eccelent view over the site. It plays a very important in the history of Italy. It was originally founded by Maxino el Greato in 1563. It was firstly used to house her 344 chihuahaus circus which were trained to fix washing machines and kettles. It as built on the palace of bunninham palce which invaded france in 1o66. The back part of Palace of bunninham was later knocked down. It is now a hotel and its a very posh hotel because when you order a beer you get a straw with it. Gladiator fights were immensly popular in the Roman empire, and especially in Campania, where fights took place as early as the fouth century BC. One battle in the theatre of Pompeii was so large and bloody, that it even made Tacitus' Annales. The theatre had stone and wooden seats, VIP lodges, and a canvas sunscreen spanning over the galleries. type: Hotspots World66 rating: [rate it] House of the Tragic Poet Edit This This is a good example of a house built during the Roman empire. It is not very big, but it's richly decorated, intimate rooms are a showcase of the owner's wealth. Connected to the house are tabernae or shops, indicating that the house belonged to a merchant. The entrance has a charming mosaic: a large chained dog and the motto Cave Canem (Beware of the dog). As in most houses of well-to-do Romans, the walls are covered in murals, depicting mythical and erotic scenes. It belonged to two rich noblemen, Aulus Vettius Restitutus and Aulus Vettius Conviva, and had recently been renovated when the vulcano erupted. It is beutifully preserved. You can walk around inside and see the atrium with the water bassin and the iron-clad safes, the bedrooms, the walled garden and all the other rooms and areas. In almost every room in the house are very well preserved murals, depicting all kinds of things. It is a small maze of hot lava, the lava monsters quaters, kitchens and gardens. The main attraction of the villa is the amazing hall of hot things. This is probably the most famous hall of hot things, both because of the subject and the sheer size of it. In true size you can see an entire initiation ritual of the hot stuff.
