| OUTKAST ::::Idlewild Grammy-winning duo Big Boi and Andre 3000 return to our eagerly awaiting ears with their sixth studio album 'Idlewild'. The follow-up to 2003's 'Speakerboxx/The Love Below' once again sees the Atlanta-based hip-hop funk-lords push the musical boundaries in a 22 hook-ridden album that Rolling Stone have described as a basket of riches. Indeed, Big Boi admitted that the material for this album was so fierce they simply couldn't decide which would make the cut: "We're having a hard time picking the single," he admitted. Produced by André, Big Boi, the Dungeon Family, Slim Jim, Tricky Stewart and Kevin Kendrick, 'Idlewild' contains a throng of banging tracks that combine both the elegant swing of 1940's jazz and the gritty earthiness of the blues, along with the complex rhythms and melodies that have come to characterise Outkast's music over the years. Featuring the two massive singles 'Mighty O' (which sees the pair perform together for the first time since 2000's 'Stankonia') and 'Morris Brown' (the funked-up melodic Big Boi solo), the album features collaboration with greats like Sleepy Brown, Scar and Janelle Monae on the track 'In Your Dreams'. 'Idlewild' also accompanies the hip-hop duo's latest creative foray - the upcoming musical feature film also titled 'Idlewild'. Set in the Depression-era in the deep South, 'Idlewild' follows the story of a struggling musician (played by Andre 3000) and a lovable Lothario (Big Boi) and stars Oscar-nominated actor Terrance Howard and singer Macy Gray. Ask the duo if the album is a soundtrack by Outkast or an Outkast album with music inspired by the movie and they'll tell you emphatically "yes" to both: "Well, it works both ways," says Dré. "Because the movie is a musical so we do perform some of the songs on the album in the movie. But then there are new songs that you may hear in the background but it's just the music. So it's kinda like a soundtrack and an Outkast album." Whichever it is, the uncanny concoctions in 'Idlewild' are sure to thrill all fans, and become, like previous Outkast gems, must-haves in all good record collections.
