The complex was completed in 1586 after three years of construction and employed a staggering 600,000 workers. The original stone walls around the castle formed a massive rectangle that was three km long by two km wide. Ōsaka (大阪) è una città del Giappone, di 2,7 milioni di abitanti, situata nella regione del Kansai, nell'isola di Honshu, alla foce del fiume Yodo. È la capitale dell'omonima prefettura e la terza città del Giappone per numero di abitanti, posta al centro di un'area metropolitana, densamente popolata, di cui fanno parte Kobe e Kyoto, con le quali raggiunge il numero di 17.510.000 abitanti. Osaka fu storicamente la capitale commerciale del Giappone ed ancora oggi è una dei maggiori distretti industriali e portuali.

Nel 1583, lo shogun Toyotomi Hideyoshi vi eresse un imponente castello, Ōsaka-jō (大坂城) che è tuttora, anche se ampiamente ricostruito, uno dei monumenti simbolo della città.
