Oregon Travel Guide
Edit This The best resource for sights, hotels, restaurants, bars, what to do and see
x
Oregon is located on the west coast of the United States between California and Washington. It is a state full of sights, things to and especially great for outdoor opportunities.

Salem, the capital city and Portland are the biggest cities in the state. Both are a good base for exploring the many possibilities of the area. Portland is also very much worth a visit to see the urban architecture.

Crater Lake National Park is one of the most impressive sights. The region is great for hiking. Hells Canyon National Recreation Area, the deepest river gorge in North America, lives up to its name during the scorchingly hot summer months. It is a popular spot for boaters, swimmers, and hikers, all of whom enjoy the cool waters and challenging trails.

Mount Hood is the highest mountain of the state. The area is great for skiing.

Portland offers sights, sounds, and a wonderful cityscape. Looking out over the water at night is a tremendous spectacle. If you're looking for anything you can find it here. http://oregon.areaguides.net/

Don't just stay for a night, plan a few days, as there are so many tours and half day trips available in the area, you'll need to stay a minimum of 3 days. Most airlines fly directly to Portland, but driving there will take you through the beautiful countryside of either Washington, California, or Southwestern Idaho.

There are many ways how you could come to Oregon. Sure, the hardest one is like in earlier days by foot on the Oregon Trail. From Idaho coming, through dry lands and high mountains, you will arrive at the end tired but happy in Portland.

However, todays technology offered us more solutions ...

BY CAR: Oregon is connected through I-5 in North South direction. I-5 combines the Pacific Metropolities Vancouver, Seattle, San Francisco, L.A., Sacramento and San Diego with Oregons beautiful towns of Portland, Eugene and Ashland.

From Idahos Capitol City Boise coming, I-84 follows mainly the Columbia River. It connects the dry eastern part with the beating heart, Portland.

Having a car in Oregon has great advantages. Most attractions, like the Gorge, are better accessible with car, and you can easily escape the big tours of Japanese tourists, by just having different stops.

BY AIR:Portlands International Airport is connected to over 120 cities worldwide and offers after construction good services. US Flights are also possibl form the hippie town Eugene. Over 100 public-use airports make Oregons endless landscape accessible for small airplanes.

BY RAIL: Oregon is served by four scenic AMTRAK trains. The COAST STRALIGHT connects Seattle and Los Angeles, and stops in Portland, Salem, Eugene, Chemult and Klamath Falls. Amtrak offers additional tours via bus. Check it out, AMTRACK on the Web: http://www.amtrak.com.

BY BUS: There are planty possibilities travelling Oregon by bus. GREYHOUND, AMTRAK and some local firms offer trips through Oregon by Bus. GREYHOUND is cheaper than AMTRAK. An alternative to the big companies is the GREEN TORTOISE. The survivors of the touring hippie society offer tours through the whole US, but especially 3 to 4 times a week tours up and down the Pacific Coast. For stops and timetables, check out the Web:
