Nyon Travel Guide Edit This The best resource for sights, hotels, restaurants, bars, what to do and see Wonderful Park in Nyon Wonderful Park in Nyon Panus Prueksunand Nyon is a very nice city located on the borders of Lac Leman (kak Lake of Geneva). It is reached in twenty minutes from Geneva with regular trains. Steep streets with old houses lead up from the lake to the white Chateau. The Chateau can be visited but was closed for restauration when I was there (Jan 2004). From Nyon you can make boat trips to Evian and Geneva. The view accross the lake is spectacular on a clear day you see the Mont Blanc. At the time of the Romans the city was named Julia Equestrius. It has many features demonstrating that it was once an important Roman colony. As you walk down from Place Perdtemps you may spot an amphitheatre, discovered during some building works for appartments that would never be built. One of the major summer events is the Paléo Festival de Nyon. ________Day Trips Edit This There are a lot of day trips to be had around Nyon. Contributors April 19, 2006 new by warzabidul (1 point) [Add Day Trip] Le Sentier des Toblerones Edit This For those who enjoy walking Le Sentier des Toblerones is a nice walk. You can start from Nyon and make your way up to Bassins or you can do it the opposite way. the walk is divided into smaller sections to be visited. The full walk is seventeen kilometers. The defensive toblerone were placed here after the first World War to avoid invasion. In particular the mentality is that if an army attempts to invade Switzerland the best policy would be to retreat into the mountains where defence is easier. What remains is a line of concrete blocks, pill boxes and mined more.. World66 rating: [rate it] Sailing to Yvoire Edit This For those of you who come to Switzerland in summer there is a nice trip to be had. Try to organise a trip with someone who has a boat and cross from Nyon harbour to Yvoire, have a meal there and then sail back to Nyon at night, seeing Switzerland from the waves. Depending on the time at which you sail across the lake you may find that the wind has died down, in which case the trip may take a little longer than you had wished for. If that is the case then make sure to have the appropriate lighting on the boat you're using. This activity is particularly interesting more.. _________Festivals Edit This Paleo Festival de Nyon Having just finished the 30th edition of Switzerland's biggest events preparations are under way for the next one. Over the summer months other music festivals take place. There is also a documentary film festival. At the port the Crans with two stages with a variety of artists. Cheb Khaled and other artists have been in the past. Located around half an hour's walk from Nyon but with a shuttle service from Nyon and the parkings for the festival access is easy. When you come you will find a variety of food and drink, usually with a sports bar, ethnic food and more. Children are taken into consideration as well.
