There are lots of interesting places to visit around the province - Navarra is particularly rich in Romanesque churches and art. If you are in the region do not forget to try the famous cuisine of Navarra and do not hesitate to taste the good red vine. During the San Fermin Festival the trains tend to be booked up so it is advisable to make a booking as early as possible. The railway station in Pamplona is situated outside the city. But there is a good local bus service every ten minutes or so to the city centre as well as a taxi service. There are daily flights from Madrid and Barcelona. There are no direct flights from abroad. If you are in The French State, you can take a plane to Biarritz and hire a car for the rest of the way if you don´t have someone to meet you there. The whole journey from Madrid to Pamplona takes about four hours. (About 400 kms.) If you come from Barcelona take the motorway A-2 as far as Tudela and then switching to the A-15 straight to Pamplona. Alternatively you can go via the capital of Aragon, Zaragoza. Connected to a church built in 1540, the building itself has a lot of history. Most noteworthy in its collections are its 2 outstanding flemish paintings on copper, the 12 paintings of genesis, a group of small ivory chests, and a painting by Goya entitled the Marquis of San Adrian. Also worth mentioning is its great collection of pieces from the iron age, and a strong infuence of roman pieces.
