During the San Fermin Festival the trains tend to be booked up so it is advisable to make a booking as early as possible. The railway station in Pamplona is situated outside the city. But there is a good local bus service every ten minutes or so to the city centre as well as a taxi service. There are daily flights from Madrid and Barcelona. There are no direct flights from abroad. If you are in The French State, you can take a plane to Biarritz and hire a car for the rest of the way if you don´t have someone to meet you there. The whole journey from Madrid to Pamplona takes about four hours. (About 400 kms.) If you come from Barcelona take the motorway A-2 as far as Tudela and then switching to the A-15 straight to Pamplona. Alternatively you can go via the capital of Aragon, Zaragoza. Connected to a church built in 1540, the building itself has a lot of history. Most noteworthy in its collections are its 2 outstanding flemish paintings on copper, the 12 paintings of genesis, a group of small ivory chests, and a painting by Goya entitled the Marquis of San Adrian. Also worth mentioning is its great collection of pieces from the iron age, and a strong infuence of roman pieces.
