born the 20 of December of 1920 in the sector of the
Ceiba de Cabrera, in Moca, Antonio Morel began his
studies of music in the town of Tamboril, guided by
professor Federico Camejo and, years later, he learned to
play the guitar with the troubador Juan Lockward.
In 1947 he founded his own orchestra, that integrated
important figures of the spectacle, like the director and
musician Enriquillo Sánchez and the singer Luis Vázquez.
Successively other vocalists sang in the orchestra of the
stature of Joseíto Mateo, Francis Santana, Lope
Balaguer, Lupe Serrano, Flor de Lily, Alberto Beltrán
and many other outstanding figures.
The orchestra of Antonio Morel and La Super Orquesta San
José were, by the forties and fiftys, the maximum
musical institutions in their sort. Antonio Morel, next
to its orchestra, recorded for several record labels;
among them, S. M. Mozart, Marvela and Decca, where there
are registered pieces as Apágame la vela, Lamento náufrago,
San Cristóbal, Mi gloria, Demasiado corazón, Arenas del
desierto, No me abandones, and many others of diverse
sorts, that enjoyed great popularity.
