| :::::::::::Mallorca Travel Guide Edit This The best resource for sights, hotels, restaurants, bars, what to do and see Calla Millor beachfront Calla Millor beachfront Richard kiaw Ong The largest and most popular of the Balearics, Majorca is an island of startling contrasts. Its landscape varies from rugged mountains in the north to pine-covered hills and windmill-dotted plains in the south. In the west, the historic and elegant capital, Palma, skirts an attractive harbour while in the east, you can explore pretty, secluded sandy coves. Despite great popularity and development, Majorca remains an astonishingly beautiful place, with verdant pines, rolling green hills, endless superb beaches and a varied choice of resorts, each with a character and flavour of its own. Whether you want to sun yourself in peace and quiet or live it up in the hot spots until the early hours, Majorca is just the resort for you. ________Sights Edit This Discover the most important Mallorca's destinations.. Mallorca has much more to offer than paradisiac beaches and a sunny weather... the mediterranean nature gives you the possibility to have an unforgettable experience if you visit diverse natural parks, gardens and water parks. The island's also has a wealthy cultural life, plenty of historical places, museums and interesting activities. Are you ready to visit Mallorca? Then don't lose any time and start by boooking the finest accomodation available in the island! ________Getting There Edit This Apart from the ubiquitous Easyjet, you might try BMI for a cheap flight, from Heathrow – has the advantage of being a scheduled flight with decent leg room, free drinks and a snack. Takes around 2 hours 25 minutes, every day. :::::::::Arenal Travel Guide Edit This The best resource for sights, hotels, restaurants, bars, what to do and see The Beach The Beach cazz Arenal on the island of Majorca is a truly beautiful place to be....there is a lovely sandy beach stretching some two and a half miles to the neighbouring resort of Ca'n Pastilla which has a nice flat promenade which is very suitable for walking and enjoying the wonderful views. El Arenal town itself is very vibrant with all sorts of shops and eating places to suit all tastes and pockets, and one is spoilt for choice as to where to stay as there are so many hotels located here ranging from budget style to five star establishments. Frequent bus services operate to the capital city of Palma, which again is a truly beautiful place and is well worth a day trip. The bus fare is very cheap, and a €1.10 single fare is charged, and although the buses are very frequent and run every ten minutes they are very busy and getting a seat can be a problem although it is only a twenty-five minute journey. There is also a limited bus service to Manacor, Porto Cristo and the Caves of Drach suitable for a day trip if like me you didn't have a car. Aqualand on the outskirts of Arenal promises to keep the kids(and adults!)amused for hours on end. Nightlife isn't bad at all - although there are great numbers of germans holidaymaking here, English bars can be found. Arenal is well worth a visit - and do remember that you are always guaranteed good weather here! ________Getting Around Edit This The daily Arenal bus at Manacor Station. Edit This The morning bus from Arenal arrives at Valdemosa The morning bus from Arenal arrives at Valdemosa photo by: siken Arenal is a glorious resort in which to spend your holidays. However, there is no direct bus service from Arenal to Palma Airport (you have to change buses in Palma), so it would not be a bad idea to call a taxi for when you arrive in the first instance, and when you go home at the end of your holiday. In any event the buses can become extremely crowded, and so it would probably be rather difficult to take all your luggage on the bus in any event, and so, again, calling a taxi would also be recommended in this instance. However once you are settled in your hotel in more.. Most people who come here are on a package holiday. Magaluf has fine sandy beaches with a lot of activities on offer: watersports, glass bottom boat trips, as well as countless shops, bars and restaurants are all located along the wide traffic free promenades. You will never be more than a few hundred yards from either a McDonalds, Wimpey, Burger King, KFC, Pizza Hut etc. The nightlife scene is dominated by English and Irish pubs. For serious shopping (not just tourist stuff) of sightseeing you should head for Palma - there isn't much here, just hotels, appartments and stuff. There are regular buses to Palma and if you are three people a taxi is a good idea as well. :> Part or or all of this text stems from the original article at: www.majorca-mallorca.co.uk ::::::::::Palma Travel Guide Edit This The best resource for sights, hotels, restaurants, bars, what to do and see Cathedral Cathedral K&A Palma de Mallorca or La Ciutat as the locals call it, is quite a nice city with a lot of history and many things to do and see. Highlights are the cathedral and La Almudaina, the "Royal Palace", which was constructed over the remains of the Muslim Alcazar and was the residence of the early kings of Mallorca. Palma also has good shopping and a great nighlife scene. :::::::::Playa de Palma Travel Guide Edit This The best resource for sights, hotels, restaurants, bars, what to do and see x View from Hotel Leman Ronald Rios A 4 kms. wide stretch of sandy beach between the towns of Ca'n Pastilla and S'Arenal, formerly sleepy fishing villages until the 1960's, now a popular tourist destination, mostly Germans. Lots of nightlife, although catering to a German-speaking crowd. Hotels catering to different budgets, mostly low to middle-class hotels, good value for the money, even in a Euro-denominated country. Venture inland and discover the small town of Alcudia itself, which goes back to the Middle Ages. Sunday and Tuesday are market days, when this quaint town comes to life and you can wander around the colourful stalls, searching for souvenirs. ___________Practical Information Edit This Travel Safe scratchcard scam warning. When I visited Alcudia in September 2007, reps representing a new internet Tour Operator were on the streets with scratchcards. Many people 'won' cash, camcorder or free holidays and were asked to accompany the rep to the very impressive local office to see a presentation on the new tour operator. It isn't. Its a 'holiday club' scam. Many people have been conned out of amounts up to £13000 for subscriptions and up to £600 for deposits, the balance to be paid in a few days. People have been unable to cancel agreements and so far nobody has got their money back. Do not be taken in by these people! ::::::Puerto de Soller Travel Guide Edit This The best resource for sights, hotels, restaurants, bars, what to do and see Habour at Peurto de Soller Habour at Peurto de Soller Walgrev Full of character, Puerto de Soller is one of the island's natural beauty spots. The port nestles beside a vast circular bay, with great mountains rising steeply above the harbour. Take a stroll along the waterfront and enjoy a drink at one of the many open-air cafes and bars, or venture out into the surrounding area to discover the picturesque villages and lemon groves of the Soller valley. _________Getting Around Edit This Towards Biniaraix from Sóller Towards Biniaraix from Sóller David Cross There are three ways of geting from the island capital of Palma to Puerto de Sóller. The first two are by bus, one route called direct or express which goes through the mountains in a tunnel, one via Valldemossa, Deia and Sóller town which gives some glorious views of the north-west coast. The third is by the old narrow gauge electric railway to Sóller town and then from immediately outside the station to Puerto de Sóller in an old tram [half houly in Summer, hourly in Winter.] There are buses twice a day all year to the moutain villages of Biniaraix and Fornalutx, the latter being one of a few contenders for 'prettiest village in Spain.' In the summer only there is a bus along the coast to the far north-east town of Pollença and numerous boats in both directions along the coast. __________Beaches Edit This [Add Beach] Playa d'en Repic Edit This At the southern side of the bay. Building extension to both is likely to turn them more into a single place eventually. Meanwhile you may well prefer to stay in the town, which is less of a resort, if you want somewhere with a spanish feel. There are good art nouveau elements in the town itself and the Botanical Gardens are worth a visit, as much for the perfect view of the town's mountain setting as for the plants. There are other gardens (Jardines de Alfabia) to visit on the direct bus route to Palma. Biniaraix and Fornalutx are easily accessible on foot and this gives access to mountain walks at all levels. If you want to stay in winter, book early as many places close at this time. ::::::::Valdemossa Travel Guide Edit This The best resource for sights, hotels, restaurants, bars, what to do and see The former monastery The former monastery davidx This is a village with magnificent views over the north-west coat of the island. It is easily reached by bus from Palma or from Sóller. Valdemossa was the place where Chopin and George Sand stayed for a winter in a converted monastery – without the anticipated benefits to Chopin’s health. However they must surely have enjoyed the views from their ‘cell’, even if Chopin did have problems getting his piano delivered. Just around the corner from the old monastery is a sort of palace where Chopin recitals are played at a fixed time of each hour, even if you are the sole visitor. |
