Maine's slogan, The Way Life Should Be, sums up the character of this vast and ruggedly diverse New England state. From the moment you leave the highway, you become overwhelmed with a sense of balance between industry, progress, and natural beauty - inspired by the locals, and appreciated by the tourists.

From its awe inspiring Seacoast, to the solitude of the Great North Woods , Maine is a playground for the adventureous, and solitude for the stressed. Throughout the state, Moose stuffed animals can be found at rest stops and souvenirs stands to entertain the child in all of us. It offers numerous opportunities for the avid outdoorsman: whitewater rafting, wilderness camping, great mountain ranges, hiking and the famous Appalachian Trail, the ocean, and incredible hunting and fishing.

For those more inclined to relax, there are numerous places to see and be seen, including the cosmopolitan arena of Portland . Old Town Portland is an up and coming Waterfront area, redeveloped to serve as Maine's center of civilized entertainment.

Augusta the capital is located on the Kennebec river. It is fairly large by Maine standards and is a good starting point for discovering the Kennebec valley.

Finally don't forget to visit Bangor. This small town was the 19th century lumber capital of the world, and is the 'true' birthplace of Paul Bunyan, despite what Minnesotans claim, haha!

Fine dining is available everywhere, from old fashioned Lobster Clambakes to five star service at the finest restaurants. Quaint New England Bed and Breakfasts line the roads in both populated and tranquil spots. Campgrounds for the adventure-spirited, and outlet shopping for those who appreciate comfort. Don't think for a second, however, that the state is a hidden gem, it thrives on tourism, and knows it. Summertime sponsors thousands of tourists from all across the world to gasp at the breathtaking scenery, relax by the Coast, and enjoy a lobster or two fresh from the icy waters of the Atlantic. So you'll never have to fear being alone, unless you want to...

Portland (Maine), Lewiston, Bangor, Auburn, South Portland, Biddeford e Waterville.

[modifica] Geografia

[modifica] Fiumi

Saint Croix, Penobscot, Kennebec e Salmon Falls.

[modifica] Laghi

Sono oltre 1600, fra i quali i principali sono i laghi Moosehead, Sebago, Chesuncook, Chamberlain, Grande Rangeley.

[modifica] Storia
