| Jammu and Kashmir Travel Guide Edit This The best resource for sights, hotels, restaurants, bars, what to do and see pahalgam pahalgam sana Jammu and Kashmir are the two Hindu & Muslim majority (Respectively) regions that are the most densely populated, hence the state’s name. The Jammu region is better known as the city of , temples and beautiful palaces. Jammu, the capital, is the major city you’ll pass on your way to the Kashmir region. The Kashmir region is very famous for its natural beauty and popularly known as 'Paradise on Earth' or 'The Valley', because of the area that stretches out between the Himalayas and the Pir Panjal Mountain Range. Its capital Srinagar is a wonderful colourful city with many museums and gardens. From Srinagar, you can do some excellent daytrips or set off for one of the hill stations from which to start your trekking. The eastern region of India is known as Ladakh with a large Buddhist population and better known as the Indian version of Tibet. It is an interesting area with an overdose of astonishing views and multiple opportunities for trekking, rafting and walking. Ladakh lies between an altitude of 9000 feet to 25000 feet. Ladakh is bordered by the Great Himalaya and the Karakoram Mountain ranges. Drass, Zanskar and the Suru Valley in the Himalaya region receive heavy snow in winter. It is said that only in Ladakh you can suffer from sunstroke and frostbite at the same time. The people, region and the culture of Ladakh are much alike the Tibet and the Central Asia. Many villages are crowned with a Gompa or Monastery. Leh is a lovely town with the impressive Leh Palace dominating the town. It might be a wise idea to check out the latest news on the situation in Kashmir. Although it is relatively safe for tourists, Kashmir still is a disputed territory and the fighting between Pakistan and India still claims lives. It is located in the Tibetan plateau and was originally part of the Western Tibetan Kingdom and hence contains a rich living Buddhist heritage. ________History Edit This The Foundation of Jammu is attributed to King Jambulochan of the 9th Century. King Jambulochan saw a Tiger and a Goat drinking water from the same spot at river Tawi, He constructed a Fort at the same spot, which is believed to be known as today's Bahu Fort. The temple of Maha kali was built after Maharaja Gulab Singh in 1822. In 1851, Maharaja Gulab Singh started the construction of the Famous Raghunath Mandir and after Six Years, inaugerated by his son Ranbir Singh. Today this famous temple is known as Raghunath Temple which is in the Heart of City. _________Practical Information Edit This I have visited Srinagar a few times and my recommendations are Grand Palace if you want to spend avg Rs 10,000 a day per Room Grand Mumtaz if you want to spend avg 7000 a day per Room Green Acre if you want to spend less then 3500 a day. Personally, I prefer Green Acre, situated in the most posh location of the valley; website address: www.wazirhotels.com . In my opinion, the best budget hotel for families. Have a small restaurant for in-house guest only. The hospitality in this hotel was awesome and so is the food. The staff is extremely cooperative which made my stay very comfortable. Not to mention just 1-2 km from lake and the main market. Very Centrally Located. The farming all occurs in the four month-long hot summer, allowing a single barley crop to be grown which is used for bread, tsampa (roasted barley flour used to make dumplings and so on), animal fodder and chang (rough Tibetan beer; tastes rather like a weak scrumpy). One can get to Leh by road or air – both are equally spectaculour. The sparkling rivers, placid lakes, gorgeous gardens and indescribable beauty of nature in the state of Jammu and Kashmir leave you completely speechless. Home to the unparalleled virgin landscapes of Kashmir, Leh and Ladakh, a travel and tourism experience to this joyous state is an unmatchable experience that will leave you feeling cleansed and pure. Srinagar, a romantic Kashmiri city situated around glistening lakes and snowy tree forested mountain slopes, is a lively, vibrant, and organic canal city, with one on the most pleasant climates in all of India (The climate chart is incorrect). The summer paradise for many of the great rulers of antiquity, Srinagar lays claim to many wonderful oppurtunities for exploration and relaxation, such as hiking in the unique destinations scattered around the fabled valley, or reading a lovely novel while resting in an ornate floating palace. Srinagar and the Kashmir Valley is a dream adventure for those of an open mind, and when security concerns die away, the city should become a top international destination for all. I had the opportunity of visitng Srinagar recently. I was fascinated by the beauty of the nature, climate and the natives of this little paradise on earth. A week's time in Srinagar has given me so much for a life time. Some information for the traveller/tourist who is eager to visit Srinagar. I start with Adi Sankaracharya Temple, which is situated on a small hillin the limits of Srinagar. You can reach here half way vehicle and then about 200 steps and once you are atop, there is a feeling of reaching heaven. The coolness around, the beauty of Srinagar from the hills is enchanting. The vast Dal lake and River Jhelum with the shikaras look like dolphins peeping out to see the world. Innumerable gardens like Mughal Garden, Nishath, Shallimar, are feast for the eye with the variety of flora. I couldnt believe 200 to 300 roses in one single small plant, with its mild fragrance and colour. One has to force himself to some out of these garden. You dont want to leave the flowers or the greenery, which proves that we are made to live with nature and unfortunately withdraw ourselfs from nature and live in a technical world which is neither healthy nor pleasant to the mind, soul or body. Other places to visit, the joy of rowing in a Shikara, hours together in the Dal Lake, the spic and span Hazratbal Mosque and then the shopping centre. Crewel embroided drapings, Woollen Shawls, Pherons, Kurtas, Dry fruits, Cherries, Straw Berries, Walnuts, Apples. It is also said that 5 acre land can produce only 1 kilogram of Saffron. Places nearby to visit Srinagar are Sonamarg, Gulmarg, Pahalgam and Patnitop. each place simply beatiful in its own way and unique. Sonamarag....we find glaciers and the joy ride of sledge drawn by men. Gulmarg, known for its flowers of various kinds, Asia's biggest Golf Course and skiing. You also have cable car called the GANDOLA ride to enjoy the beauty of Himalayas, the snow clad mountains. Pahalgam, the richest valley. You find the colours of nature blended.
