| Helsingborg Travel Guide Edit This The best resource for sights, hotels, restaurants, bars, what to do and see Vala Centrum Vala Centrum Rinchen Tsering Helsingborg is known as the Pearl of the Sound, a town striving to be continental and something else than the rest of Sweden. Partially thanks to the town’s great benefactor, Henry Dunker, there are plenty of opportunities to take part in cultural activities. A theater, an internationally acclaimed Symphonhy Orchestera and a brand new cultural centre. Located by the sea the town strecthes out along the coast and has historically been the gateway to Denmark and the rest of Europe since it is only 4 km of water between Helsingborg and its Danish sister city Helsingør. Today with strong competition from the bridge in Malmö three different boat companies together have a departure every ten minutes or so to Denmark. Helsingborg is known for the Kärnan Tower, the remainder of a medieval fortress. It is also known for the Sofiero Castle, with its rhododendron gardens, and the Fredriksdal outdoor museum. During the summer there are daily boat connections from the Råå part of Helsingborg to the little and culturally rich island of Ven. _______Getting There Edit This There are several ways to get to Helsingborg. By Air: The local airport, Ängelholm-Helsingborgs Flygplats (AGH), is located outside the nearby town of Ängelholm. Even though the airport has international status there are no scheduled international flights, but local travel companies offer special trips to international fairs and events. Two companies fly the route to Stockholm, SAS to Stockholm Arlanda (ARN) and Kullaflyg to Stockhom Bromma (BMA, City airport). By Boat: Three companies transport passengers from Helsingør to Helsingborg. Scandlines ,the biggest and with most frequent departures, is also the most expensive, but the ferries have a sizable shop for buying tax-free cigarettes and a nice restaurant. HH-Ferries is the low-budget option if you travel by car but their terminal in Helsingborg is located in the middle of the industrial harbour and is not recomended for pedestrians. Sundsbussarna have the smallest ships and only take passenegers but they are also the fastets. By Train: SJ, Swedens state owned train company offers routes to Helsingborg from most cities in Sweden, changing trains in Gothenburg or Hässleholm. By Bus: For the low budget traveller bus is the best option. Swebus Express arrive from Stockholm and Oslo/Gothenburg with no need to book, or the even cheaper (but remember to book) Säfflebussen makes a stop in Helsingborg on its way from Oslo to Berlin and also a Stockholm connection. |
