| Goa Travel Guide Edit This The best resource for sights, hotels, restaurants, bars, what to do and see Church Church Faiz Ahmed Amin The former Portuguese colony of Goa is one of the most relaxed and beautiful places in India. In the seventies when all of India was full with European and American hippies, Goa was really packed with them. Now most of the hippies have left, but new travellers keep pouring in. The most important attractions are probably the beaches. They are as beaches should be: made of white sand and lined with palm trees. See how the fishermen bring in the fishing nets and be prepared for the beach vendors who try to sell anything from fresh fruits to Rajashtani bangles. Goa is especially a treat when you have travelled around in the rest of India. Travel in India can be very nerve consuming and Goa is just the place to go to forget about all that. If you have the intention of staying for a longer period of time (you won't be the first to be entangled in Goa's web of sun, beaches and relaxation in all its forms), you can often make a deal about your accommodation price, especially when you're staying with locals. Old Goa offers a break form all the white sandy beaches and all night parties. It has a lot of sights dating back to colonial times. Some of the best beaches are found in Anjuna, Calangute and Colva. ________Sights Edit This i Goa- with its bountiful natural wealth, rich and varied cultural heritage coupled with peace, tranquility, hospitable and fun- loving people- has been a quest for many as a safe tourist destination. Thus, the need to develop GOAN PAGES. Goan Pages is a web portal exclusively on Goa which provides you with oodles of information on Goa . It is developed to fulfill all the tourism needs of Goa . It is a very user friendly web portal. Goan Pages has all information required on the different famous cities, beaches, eat outs etc. in Goa . Please visit http://www.goanpages.com/ ________Getting Around Edit This photo The best way to get around Goa is to hire a motorcycle though be sure to carry the necessary paperwork (licence registration & insurance) because checks on foreigners are a lucrative source of baksheesh for the police. If you don't know how to drive motorcycle taxis are a legitimate and fun way of scooting between towns. If you're a sardine catch a bus: it's a good way of nattering with local people also masquerading as sardines. _______Getting There Edit This During the months from October to April: From the U.K and certain other parts of Europe one can travel cheaply on a two week charter holiday package with B&B. Contact your local travel agent or give me a buzz. The other way from Europe or America or wherever you can travel to bombay and then get a 45 min flight to goa or come to goa cheaply on a 14 hour bus or train journey. From within India Air, road and rail connects you to Goa ________Sight Seeing Tours Edit This Here are a few places to see around Goa. sight seeing places in and around Goa colva beach. From here I organise cruise aboard my boat on the yet undiscovered river Chapora, where one can come into contact with nature, wild birds, historical sites and more…. The website http://www.cruiseingoa.com will give you an overview of Chapora river’s unique ecosystem, only really open to tourism 2 years ago. With the boat we go 25 km inland, deep into the jungle, coming across isolated traditional hamlets, letting you discover the unspoilt Goa in all its beauty and authenticity. As I notice that your site includes travels to Goa , would you be interested to collaborate and receive commission if you have a tour operator in Goa ? Looking forward to your answer, Sincerely Stéphane Fromentin Fromentin Boat Excursions PVT LTD House No 1553, Pequen Chiuvar Anjuna, Goa , India 0091 9881772861 stephane@cruiseingoa.com http://www.cruiseingoa.com :::::::Anjuna Travel Guide Edit This The best resource for sights, hotels, restaurants, bars, what to do and see Anjuna Beach Anjuna Beach Rushabh Sanghavi Anjuna is one of the most popular beach resorts. All night long, beach parties with trance music attract a versatile crowd with people from all over the planet. The Goa party season is generally over Christmas-New Year, when outdoor parties are held every other night at locations such as Hilltop,(Vagator), Bamboo forest and Shiva temple,(Anjuna). To find out where the party is you need to ask around- most taxi driver's will be able to tell you. During the day the beaches are a great place to relax, and there is usually a spot to find that suits your taste. For those who like the party-come-circus vibe, then there is South Anjuna, where people can lie and sip lemon nana or cold beers whilst getting a relaxing massage and zoning out to the trance music. There are various touts selling their fruit, massages and even gymnastic routines. If you are not interested, a polite no thanks is all that is needed, and if you want some peace and quiet, then stay at the Anjuna end of the beach. The wednesday flea market is a good reason to leave the beach for a while and to look around in the town. The best time to go is very early, so either you are still awake or you have to get up at 7:00 for a change. The Albuqurque Mansion is also worth a visit. It was built in the 1920s and modelled after the palace of the Sultan of Zanzibar. _______Bars and Cafes Edit This There are so many good cafe's to be found in Anjuna. A favourite for those who like to sit and watch the sun sink into the Arabian sea, is Zoorie's, an Israeli run outdoor restaurant perched on the cliff. There's even a double bed that you can recline on as you sip an iced coffee and wait for your pasta. For those who like to watch a big screen tv, share chillum and choose from an extensive and affordable menu, there's the popular Munchies, which is on the road to Chapora, a minutes walk from Starco junction. The German bakery and Mango Shade, both on the way to South Anjuna, are good places to breakfast in the shade. The German bakery has a relaxed vibe, and Mango shade does great lassi. ::::::: Calangute Travel Guide Edit This The best resource for sights, hotels, restaurants, bars, what to do and see Sun Set at Calangute Steps Sun Set at Calangute Steps Brushy Calangute is the busiest beach resort. It has many small hotels and guesthouses. In the weekends it gets a bit too crowded so we may suggest you use the weekends to visit Old Goa or daytrip to another nice place. The beaches are good: white sand, cocotrees, the works. North of Calangute you find Baga and Anjuna. Cows often roam around the beaches. The water is warm but not clear. Beware of drum sellers ::::::::Candolim Travel Guide Edit This The best resource for sights, hotels, restaurants, bars, what to do and see Joes Ponderosa Candolim Joes Ponderosa Candolim Brushy Pleasant village near the beach, with lots of tourist hotels and guesthouses, restaurants and bars. Lively and central, ideal for doing all kind of trips (to Old Goa, Anjuna market, Mapusa, Fort Aguada, etc.). A few years ago, a big ship (the River Princess) got stuck on the beach-side, and has been lying there ever since, but this year, works started for it's removal. _________Practical Information Edit This First time visitors may find Goa a little overwhelming. Those accustomed to European resorts will have a travel experience that will be more colourful, challenging and ultimately rewarding. A few tips that I would suggest after 11 visits to Goa: Relax, most people you will come across will be very friendly and safe. However, use your common sense. Don't be out on the beach or remote spots on your own especially at night. Being part of a group after all is much more fun! Enjoy the food. Try eating at some of the 'locals' cafes and restaurants - go to Panjim for an evening meal and take the advice of your (Probably very friendly) taxi driver. Visit one of the spice plantations Use Indian anti-mozzie cream. Almost certainly more effective than any you could buy at home. Understand the social structure. Pay attention to who you meet. There is a difference between a local catholic indian, a visiting Islamic trader from Northern India, displaced Tibetans, Hindus, Saddhus etc. Use your common sense and try to act with respect to others beliefs and interests. Visit a Hindu temple. Don't overdo alcohol / food etc. Having a hangover or Delhi belly in roasting hot sunshine just ain't enjoyable. :::::::::Colva Travel Guide Edit This The best resource for sights, hotels, restaurants, bars, what to do and see Colva Beach Colva Beach Douwe Osinga The beach is totaly dissappointing because it is full of filthy cloak water running nearby. The garbage from the many restaurants is just dumped at every corner and this is the cause for the high rise in malaria cases in Colva caused by the mosquitoes. The taxi drivers just quote prices which are totally unacceptable and even are a nuisance to travellers. There is more to this nuisance but perhaps some other readers could add some more realistic information. I travelled 8.000 km and visited Colva beach for the first time 50 years back, in Januay 1956 and 11 times since. It was the most fabulous beach on that west coast being one of the finest in the world untill late 80s when human greed started degrading this paradise. Unfortunatly interests speak louder and the ones who should stop this crimes are the ones who do more harm unpunished. :::::::::Mapusa Travel Guide Edit This The best resource for sights, hotels, restaurants, bars, what to do and see Mapusa is the administrative headquarter of North Goa. It has a good friday markets, some nice churches. Close to Mapusa are some of the nicest beaches of Goa. Worth visit is the Milagres Church and Hanuman Temple. There is a Goan Handicraft emporium at Tourist Hostel in Mapusa. ::::::::Margao Travel Guide Edit This The best resource for sights, hotels, restaurants, bars, what to do and see i Margoa is a commercial capital of goa covered by beaches like colva, benellium. margoa also called as madgoan. a well maintained roads and has good connectivity by rail and road. you can reach margoa by train from mumbai & bangalore and similar for road. Margao being in the south of goa is queer and uninhabited to the exten of having lovely green fields which is definitely a sight to behold especially in the months of october to febuary. ;::::Old Goa Travel Guide Edit This The best resource for sights, hotels, restaurants, bars, what to do and see photo Mahesh Godbole Old Goa was founded by Alfonso de Albuquerque in the mid 16-th century. St. Francis Xavier played in important role in making the area a catholic stronghold of the Portuguese on the Indian subcontinent. Today, Old Goa offers the best examples of portuguese colonial architecture in India. There are many churches -they are still being used- some museums and great palaces. Old Goa is probably the most popular day trip for all the beach bums looking for a bit of culture when they get tired of the beaches, so you will find quite some fellow foreigners here. _____Sights Edit This [Add Sight] Basilica of Bom Jesus Edit This Great church, a world heritage site. type: Churches World66 rating: [rate it] Se Cathedral Edit This The largest church in Goa, built in 1562-1623. type: Churches World66 rating: [rate it] Palace of the Inquisition Edit This 16000 cases were heard here between 1561 and 1774. Without the overcrowding and associated effects like littering makes it one place not to be missed. :::::::::Panaji Travel Guide Edit This The best resource for sights, hotels, restaurants, bars, what to do and see Panjim, Film Festival 2005 Panjim, Film Festival 2005 Piyush Acharya Panaji, formerly known as Panjim and before that as New Goa, is the capital of Goa state. It is a rather small town, overlooked by the Altinho hill to the south. The town does not have great buildings or attractions, but there is enough here to keep you busy for at least a day. The old district of Fontainhas is the nicest part of town. It has a lot of atmosphere and it is nice to walk around here. When you are done strolling, head for the Altinho, the hill overlooking the town. It offers great views over the estuary. There are good beaches close to Panaji. The seafront boulevard runs south for three kilometers. ________Nightlife and Entertainment Edit This You get take nightly cruises over the river, which are wildly popular among the Indian tourists. You don't get to see a lot from the river, because it is dark, but that doesn't seem to bother most people. There are dancing performances and general merryness to which maybe not all westernese might be able to relate to, but it is nice to watch. ::::::::Nightlife and Entertainment Edit This You get take nightly cruises over the river, which are wildly popular among the Indian tourists. The reason to come here is the fort -now a hotel- with its great views. If you can try to stay a night or two in the hotel. The fort was built by the Maratha, but it was captured by the Portuguese in 1776 who built a church in the fort. Nearby are the unsploit beaches of Holden Beach in (Maharashtra). |
