The year is 1979, and five young guys are free-flow jamming, in a Hispanic neighbourhood in downtown Manhattan, N.Y.C. The vocalist of this group is Salvatore Principato. By day, he works in a toy store (with Kim Gordon). By night, he‘s dropping his vocal inflections onto the rhythms of his group, who go by the name Liquid Liquid. Their own brand of ‘body music’ began to be heard not only alongside bands such as Suicide and ESG, but also in the pioneering sets of DJ'S like Afrika Bambaataa and Larry Levan. And without changing tack for new audiences, the band played on.

:: knifehandchop :: Billy Pollard, extreme boy mentalist supreme from Canada is back to mash up the party. For those of us slow off the blocks this delightfully unhinged cd makes available again long term seven inch favourites 'Dancemix 2000' and 'Bounty Killer Killer' and the gone in a shot 'Sunjammer...' and 'Tutti Fruity Booty', whilst rejigging 'Last Night A Deejay Saved My Life' over blinging sub-Timbaland, redefining proto-gabba and hardcore still further within an inch of their aberrant lives. Interestingly Billy shows signs of, dare we say it, growing up - fear not the helium voices and 180 bpms are still firmly entrenched, but there are definite signs on 'Taking the soul out of music' and 'Music to lose your fanbase over' of the 'Chops vision finding even truer, electronic enhancements. Despite the handful of cuts already available, this is still an impressive salvo from the boy wonder, sacrificing none of his penchant for shredding carnage, whilst still clearly moving far beyond the 8 bit obsessions of 'Fighting Pig'. For all fans of the Planet mu and related party wreckers, this is definitely the cd to take on your holidays.

And it was Knifehandchop's copyright-burning, radio smashing "Dancemix 2000"-- a song that makes Eminem the target of a teen-princess gangbang, with samples of Pink, Destiny's Child and the sad little boy from Detroit thrown all over fuzzed-out four/four breaks and the Vengaboys-- that got recycled by Kid606 into his latest album...

:: baseck- Derrick Estrada (born august 14th 1981) has been a turntablist since most pre-teen boys were trying to sneak a cigarrette out of their mother's purse to impress the kids in middle school. At the age of thirteen he sold his Nintendo games and stashed away his lunch money to save up for a Panasonic turntable at the local thrift store and a Pyramid mixer he found at the San Fernando swap meet. Growing up in the early 1990's in Lancaster, California he didn't have to look far for his first influences living just an hour away from the hip-hop and techno saturated city of Los Angeles. His first impressions were from watching Ice T DJing on the show Breakin and classic vinyl like Afrika Bambaata, Herby Hancock, and the UTFO. He practiced his DJ and scratching skills for about a year and played out for the first time at a jungle and hardcore party that he and his brother helped set up out in the deserts of Lancaster. He then was asked to play by Greg Ginn of Black Flag at the Idea Room in Long Beach and soon became a regular in the Southern California electronic music scene. His record selection grew fast and varied in styles. Early on he began to dissasemble tracks and recompose them to create his own fusions through turntable trickery. Baseck's current style is made up of breakcore, broken beats, idm, droning atmospheres, and noise to create a beautifully slaughtered collage of sound in the turntablist style. In his live acts his goal is to "expose people to a more visual act" with experimental electronic music. His audience seems to levitate forward to watch his hands although he believes that playing out doesn't have to be limited to the space between his equipment, himself, and the crowd as in most public "zombie e-mail coffee shop laptop sessions" as he puts it.

In the last two years Baseck has toured four times in the U.S. and three times in Europe and the U.K. with Milwaukee's Doormouse and Miami's Otto Von Schirach. Collaborations include tracks with Hecate on Zhark Records in Switzerland and he's currently working on projects for both Schematic Records in Miami, FL and Addict Records from Milwaukee, WI. Releases include a remix for Otto Von Schirach on Schematic records and tracks on compilations released on Addict records as well as several self released mixes. Baseck has shared the stage with artists such as; Richard Devine, Venetian Snares, Kid 606, Soft Pink Truth, Daedelus, Phoenicia, The Berzerker, Dabrye, Busdriver, Awol One, and many more.

:: ADJUST - ADJUST, once known to have delayed the historic 'the key to time' project for over nine months due to artwork incompetence, and several vinyl releases even longer. the ep 'your bad luck' (014) is named after middle school tribulations of jumping off a fence and landing on your head. its a true story, really. a member of the equinauts, also known as THEEQ (pron: the-eq, sort of). coincidentally and previously, a member and producer of tracks on the electro record label VMAX in detroit as well. over 10 years of djing and previous appearances on the lollapalooza and URB magazine tours, rumor has it the LOW RES label was started with funds garnered from spinning house music opening a gig for little louie vega and tony humphries.

not a lot has changed. ADJUST still has a bunch of house records in the crate (and the ocassional hey-soul DEVO classic) at a dj residency in detroit and he still delays the game. this guy is late for everything, dont invite him anywhere. end of story.

:: Kero - from detroit/windsor area is born another groundbreaking artist unwilling to settle for the sounds of mediocrity and cliche so common in todays electronic universe. KERO aka sohail azad was brought up on the underground sounds of detroit/windsor throughout the better part of the 90s. inspired by unusual sonic landscapes and complex sequencing techniques, KERO developed a taste for the more experimental side of electronic music bringing the sounds of AUTECHRE, APHEX TWIN and RICHARD DEVINE to the virgin ears of many young detroiters. armed with a talent for raw digital mayhem, KERO immersed himself in a constant production frenzy developing his unique signature sound blending complex and experimental programming tactics with the more harsh and dark sonic sculpture of harder loop tek. along side his audio production, KEROs digital multimedia sensor activated video installations and cutting edge print artwork has drawn attention from many and made him one of the key multimedia designers in the detroit/windsor underground and we do mean deep...
