Most of the hotels are located in the northern part of the city, Nani Daman (Little Daman). Liquor is cheap and freely available, hence Daman is a big bar for the residents of neighbouring dry state of Gujarat. Daman is also being promoted as a conference and rest and recreation center for the Corporates in the industrial belt of Vapi just across the border. ______Getting There Edit This i By Road:Daman is about 15kms from Vapi. Vapi is around 175km north of Mumbai. It lies on the Western Express Highway that connects Mumbai to Ahmedabad (NH8). Now with plans to convert this Highway into an Expressway, the roads are widened, multilaned and it sure is a smooth drive all the way. By Air:From Vapi, Gujarat Airways has three flights a week to Mumbai. By Rail:The closest railway station to Daman is Vapi at a distance of about 10kms. You can take a shared taxi from the station for about Rs 15 per head to Daman, bus (Rs 3), or taxi (Rs 75). Vapi is on the main railway line between Mumbai and Ahmedabad. There are trains to Mumbai Central (3-4 hr, nine daily), Ahmedabad (7 hr, 5 expresses daily), Vadodara (5 hr, 8 daily), and the overnight Saurashtra Janata Exp #9017 goes to Rajkot. _______Beaches Edit This Camel rides on Devka Beach Camel rides on Devka Beach Deepak Amembal There are two Beaches -The Jampore Beach and the Devka Beach. The Jampore Beach is rather secluded while the Devka beach has a children's park where there are swings and slides to keep the children busy. The beach is not much to write home about, just good enough to take long walks. The Devka Beach is more popular as most of the hotels are situated here and so is the shopping promenade. |
