| Ibiza Travel Guide Edit This The best resource for sights, hotels, restaurants, bars, what to do and see sunset benirras oct 2004 sunset benirras oct 2004 peter gerits Ibiza, an island which is one in a thousand! It is undoubtedly popular within the international club life scene. Every one who loves nightlife clubbing should have been at least once on this magical island. In the sixties, the island dissociated itself from the rest of the European resorts with the arrival of Baghwan Shree Rejneesh. This religious cult hero was the leader of a rather strange sect and his hippytrain followed in his wake to Ibiza. The party community was born. From all over the world, top DJ's are attracted to play records at this party island. Real die-hards, however, think that Ibiza has become too much commercialised. The island, with its 84,000 inhabitants, attracts over a million visitors every year. Despite this, Ibiza remains a draw. During the whole summer, the island is the scene of non-stop parties, which can be said of only a few other places in the world. Ibiza Town is the place to head for - it has everything the island is famous for; the other towns are nothing compared to the capital of the islands. San Antonio Abad has lots of ugly hotels and appartment complexes, Santa Eulalia is nice daytrip but not much more. _________Practical Information Edit This [Add Practical address] Hospital Can Misses Edit This In case of emergency: 061, 24-hours ambulance Red Cross:(+34)971 39 03 03. type: general World66 rating: [rate it] address: Ibiza Town .Tel=(+34) 971 39 70 00 Radio Taxi Ibiza Edit This type: general World66 rating: [rate it] tel: (+34) 971307000 Aeroport d'Eivissa Edit This Iberia (International):+34/901333222, Iberia (National) :+34/901333111, Air Europe :+34/971760612. type: Embassies and Consulates World66 rating: [rate it] tel: (+34) 971809000 Police Edit This In case of emergency: 112, Local Police: 092, National Police: 091. type: Permits and registration World66 rating: [rate it] Tourist information Edit This type: general World66 rating: [rate it] address: Passeig de Ses Fonts, San Antonio tel: 34/971343363 Pharmacies Edit This type: general World66 rating: [rate it] address: Av.I.Macabich, Ibiza Town tel: (+34) 971 31 56 6 Pharmacies Edit This type: general World66 rating: [rate it] address: Balanzar 1, San Antonio tel: (+34) 971 34 04 49 __________Getting Around Edit This One of the easiest and cheapest ways to get around is by bus. They ride regularly. The special disco-buses go to every disco on the island and cost, approximately, 1.5 Euro. Make sure you buy your ticket in advance. It should not be any problem for you to catch a hike when you missed the last bus. Buses for Salinas leave every hour. You can grab a taxi, for a reasonable price, nearly everywhere, except in the area near the beach of Salinas. The number of the Radio Taxi Ibiza is: +34/971307000. If you want to have your own transport, rent a car or scooter. If you are planning to rent a car, don't do it through your hotel. It is probably more profitable to do it yourself by going to a shop that hires out cars. Moto Luis has a good assortment and you can even make reservations online. A fairly cheap option is Autos Isla Blanca (+34/971315407) which hires out scooters from 50 Euro onwards. You can get a Seat Marbella for three days for approximately 85 Euro. ________Clubs Edit This The division between nightlife and daylife might vanish on Ibiza, or maybe it’s because it’s such a small island that people have to live in shifts and there’s a night and a daylife crew. Anyway, you could easily spend a holiday here partying at night and sleeping on the beach at daytime. The only thing you’ll be needing is a place to change for you obviously have to dress up for the night. Ibiza has a great variety of all sorts of bars but is foremost known for its never ending clubbing scene, which starts at sunset and continues until sunrise the next day- or probably until the last day of your holiday. Here are some of Europe’s most advanced state-of-the-art high-tech super clubs. With the crème-de-la-crème DJ’s from all over the world spinning their records. Also lots of celebrities perform here or show up in the crowded viprooms. It’s all about seeing and be seen here, and it really does not matter to much who you are as long as you has looks or cash. Note: it is strongly suggested to get a pre-sale ticket before entering ANY club. To get a pre-sale ticket ask in one of the many bars in the Ibiza Town port or ask your tour operator. Pre-sale tickets are usually 20%-30% cheaper than regular ones and you have a preferential entrance when you reach the club. Famous for its unique sun terrace and feared for its crazy all dayers. It is the place to be for party animals who don't want to wait for the night to party. The weekly zenith in Space is the 22-hours lasting party, which starts at eight on Sunday morning and lasts until Monday morning. type: general World66 rating: [rate it] address: Playa D'en Bossa tel: +34/971396793 Pacha Edit This Even more exclusive than El Divino is Pacha (Av. Ocho de Agosto). The abundant mixture of African and Mediterranean influences give it the 'chic' that it is known for and, therefore, its distinctive character. Pacha refuses to go along with the British invasion and stays tuned and focused on Speed Garage, that is, American house music influenced by soul. This is the main reason why the public bears such a diverse and international character. At the moment, Pacha has seven clubs world-wide, each one of them being located at an exclusive and unexpected location. Pacha is the most more.. type: general World66 rating: [rate it] address: Abadordo 330, Ibiza Town tel: +34/971191000 Eden Edit This You can see Eden (the former Kaos) from a long distance because of its two enormous lighted and violet domes. It is a popular place and has a classy radiation. There are two dancing floors, a chill-out room and a VIP-room. type: general World66 rating: [rate it] address: San Antonio Amnesia Edit This This is one of the nightclubs with a strong British feeling. The best nights are organised by renowned clubs such as Cream in cooperation with Bugged Out, Delicatessen and Godskitchen. In former days, this used to be an open-air disco, but due to new legislation, it had to get a roof. It is most definitely a beautiful disco, but it misses the class of Pacha or El Divino. You can take a disco-bus from both Ibiza Town and san Antonio. type: general World66 rating: [rate it] address: San Antonio Road, Ibiza Town tel: +34/971198041 El Paradis Terrenal Edit This El Paradis Terrenal (Paradise on Earth) is one enormous Mediterranean paradisiacal garden with temples, pillars, terraces and fountains under one big roof. The propelling roof, which has the form of a pyramid, weighs 12000 kilos. There are six bars which provide the three thousand visitors with booze. One of the major drawbacks is the multitude of ugly Spanish chicks who go there. type: general World66 rating: [rate it] address: Balca de San Antonio, San Antonio tel: +34/971324893 Privilege Edit This Formerly known as KU and still the largest disco in the world! You can trace the Techno Tech style in the magnificent gardens, trees, swimming pools and the giant fountain. The propelling window in the roof shows the Ibiza sky scattered with bright stars. Because Privilige is bigger, faster and noisier than any disco in the world, it misses a touch of exclusivity. However, as soon as the internationally renowned DJ's start playing, you'll feel the adrenaline rushing through your veins and it will make you feel larger than life. type: general World66 rating: [rate it] address: San Antonio Road, Ibiza Town tel: +34/971198160 El Divino Edit This El Divino (Puerto de Ibiza Nueva) has a fairly exclusive public. The Oreintal furnishing gives the place an intimate atmosphere. In the restaurant, enjoying the splendid view, you can load up your energy for the forthcoming night. If you are in a romantic mood, you can retreat to the big terrace, facing the Mediterranean Sea. However the main room doesn't have air-conditioning and in summertime it gets really hot. The security personnel has been really unpolite and unkind in several occasions so make sure to be a good boy or you'll be thrown out in no time. type: general World66 rating: [rate it] address: The Marina, Ibiza Town. tel: +34/971191000 url: www.eldivino-ibiza.com __________Beaches Edit This Playa Xaracca, Ibiza Playa Xaracca, Ibiza Tink Moonen With its 18 kilometers of beach, Ibiza has something for everybody: ranging from quiet to crowded beaches and from beaches that are calm to the ones that offer the perfect surf breeze. There’s no real surf for wave riding though, but there’s plenty of other activities to keep you busy during the daytime. Every beach and all the beautiful spots on the island, which has only a size of 572 square kilometers, are within the reach of 40 kilometers. Except for the beaches near Ibiza Town, the south is relatively undiscovered. It’s here you’ll find the more quiet beaches as far as that’s possible for Ibiza. On the north side you’ll find some of the coolest beach-clubs of Europe. Here you can either find your own idyllic quiet spot or continue the party of the previous night when the sun rises again. Beach culture in Ibiza is about just as important as the clubs so be sure to look as sharp as possible. That’s hard enough even on the nudist beaches were clothing is out of fashion, you still have to have a perfect body. Anyway that’s for the lucky few, but you can look your best even if you’re not wearing designer ditties. Be aware of the sun, don’t overdo your tanning or even worse fall asleep in the sun. You might need your back later on. [Add Beach] S'Aigua Blanca Edit This A splendid beach, not in the least because there is not much building upon the sand. Occasionally, the party crowd comes over to this spot to enjoy the total freedom that rules the beach. Although it is not officially recognised as a nudist beach, feel free to peel off all clothes for a good swim. type: general World66 rating: [rate it] Cala Benirras Edit This sunset benirras oct 2004 sunset benirras oct 2004 photo by: peter gerits Cala Benirras is a known for its fine sand and extremely clear water. It offers some privacy because of its isolated stretches of beach. You can have a good meal at one of the beach-tents. It can get very busy in the high season on the main beach though, the parties at night are well-known for the crowd of performers (drummers, musicians, fire-breathers, jugglers and assorted hippies). Very good vibe. type: general World66 rating: [rate it] S'Aigua Blanca Edit This Agua Blancas Agua Blancas photo by: Lee Conniff Being a long bay open to the sea and the often prevailing wind, the waves tend to crash onto this beach at greater velocity than elsewhere. Body surfing here is particularly good fun. It is one of the officially recognised nudist beaches on the island, but those with a tendency to wear clothes are made equally welcome at either of the two bars/chiringuitos that serve the beach. The bar to the left hand end of the beach attracts a cooler crowd and welcomes them with excellent tunes to accompany the refreshments. You can hire water bikes and explore the rest of the coast. When you feel like it, moor at one of the many tiny and deserted beaches in the vicinity. type: general World66 rating: [rate it] Cala d'Hort Edit This Natural beauty is at its best on this beach and makes it definitely worth a visit. Two little rocky islands, lying in the distance, tempt you to take a swim through the dark blue coloured water. type: general World66 rating: [rate it] Ses Salinas Edit This The coolest beach of the island. It has a beautiful broad extending beach where you can choose from five beach-bars, all presenting their own sort of modern music. During day-time, the motley party-crowd tries to sleep off its hangover, in order to make it through the next night. When you go further the eastwards, you will see less families but even more party people - wearing bathing suits if anything at all. The view from the bay is absolutely breath-taking. Beach-club Malibu Beach is a typical hang-out for both the rich and the famous. With your private wine-cooler and the more.. type: general World66 rating: [rate it] Cala Salada Edit This One is an ideal cove to enjoy its landscape and its multiple corners that offer to pass a day's halt, baths without no danger and places where to as much take the sun from sand as of rock. The set mainly presents/displays a spectacular and charming landscape by the beauty and coloration that offer their bottoms. One of the most wonderful beaches of Ibiza. World66 rating: [rate it] url: www.yatoo-ibiza.com address: Ibiza - Eivissa Playa Des Cavallet Edit This On the south of the island you’ll find Playa Des Cavallet. Don’t worry to much about what to wear here, it’s the island's official nudist beach. With its array of dunes and the long white strip of sand it’s one of the most beautiful beaches on the island. As might be suspected it’s also a hotspot for gay people, so be open minded or stay away if you’re easily offended. type: general World66 rating: [rate it] San Antonio Edit This At just a couple of passes from the busy town centre this is probably the busiest beach of the island. Not a good place to meet, but perfect for an accidentally “bump into”. It’s a perfect place to recuperate from the night before, relax and get some color, but be careful not to doze off in the full sun, red is out of season. type: general World66 rating: [rate it] Playa de Ses Figueretes Edit This This beach, packed with both buildings and people, attracts lots of tourists. Only one motto rules on Ibiza's busiest beach: watch and being watched! The beach is packed with little restaurants and small bars. There are elaborate aquatic sports facilities. Although you don't come over to Ibiza for long walks though untouched forests, Ses Figueretes is rather touristy! We advise you to take the bus to Ses Salinas. type: general World66 rating: [rate it] cala llonga Edit This Cala Llonga is a wonderful beach at the end of an inlet. There is a bar at one end and the gentle slope of the beach into the sea allows for paddling far away from the beach. type: general World66 rating: [rate it] Port des Turrent Edit This Port des Turrent is for the more active amoung the daylight crew. It’s a beautiful golden beach, were you can ofcours see the others parasail, swim snorkel or sail, but you could also join the action yourself, and all of this in sight of San Antonio. type: general World66 rating: [rate it] Cala de Boix Edit This This is a very beautiful and special beach especially because it has black sand. It is the place to go when you are a nature-lover or want to avoid the crowd. The beach itself can get very hot indeed under the burning sun, so wear some foot protection. The restaurants, situated on the beach, are an important draw for locals. type: general World66 rating: [rate it] Cala de Boix Edit This A very beautiful and special beach. In many aspects it’s the center of the island, its focal point. It’s here that you’ll find most clubs, bars Cafes and restaurants. The city itself is beautifully located on top of a small hill. Surrounded by a couple of fortresses, the stronghold still proudly dominates the bay and the harbour at her feet. There are three main area’s: The harbour and the Sa Peña quarter, the old city within the walls and the new city. All three have their own distinct and unique character. Most people arriving with package holidays are parked in huge apartment complexes in San Antonio Abad or other villages on the island - that means that the skyline of Ibiza Town is to much damaged by the cheap white and ugly flat like hotels that have already ruined by most of the ones beautiful coasts of Spain. In Ibiza Town you find small pensions and rented apartments instead. It's pretty easy to find your way around town. From the Ferry Terminal the old streets of the Sa Pena quarter bring you up to the walled old city D'Alt Vila Within the walls there’re still quite a number of medieval buildings, of which the tower of the Cathedral is by far the most impressive. Here you’ll also find the more classy restaurants, hotels and apartments. For cheaper options you have to go down to the harbour or to one of the suburbs or other villages on the island. Just south from Ibiza Town are the suburbs of Figueretas and Playa d'en Bossa. Both have beaches, bars and restaurants. ___________Sights Edit This The Dalt Vila or high town is the origin of Ibiza Town, though there’s not much left from the Phoenician colony that settled here over 2600 year ago. With the cathedral in its center it’s foremost a medieval city in plan and organization. With all the different nations sailing by and the strategic position of Ibiza, there’s always been an emphasis on defense. The town has developed in a chaotic way around the castle and the church, the traditional centers of power. Additions were made when needed and terrain conditions allowed. And of course each time the wall had to be expanded. The Italian engineers Juan Baptista Calvi and Jacobo Paleazo Fratin constructed the present day wall in the XVIth century according to the Renaissance conception of defense. It’s not as high as the medieval walls had been and much thicker and thus adapted to the new way of warfare using cannons and mortars to breakdown a defense wall. The walls consist of seven bastions armed with artillery, connected by defensive walls. The bastions are placed forward so they could defend the walls in-between. Inside you can still find remains of the medieval walls, arranged in four adjacent areas, each on a different level and easy to recognize. Most traditional sights can be found within the walls of Dalt Vila. This is the place you should start your cultural and historical exploration of Ibiza’s past. [Add Sight] Cathedral Edit This The cathedral, which is at night the center of Ibiza’s gay extravaganza, is dedicated to the Virgin Mary. Building began in the 14th century and continued fro two centuries. The mayor part of the present day church however dates back to a severe restoration in the 18th century after Spanish troops took over the island. Thus there are two styles to be recognized, the Catalan-Gothic style from the first building campaign, which can mainly be seen in the tower and the Baroque style of the nave. type: general World66 rating: [rate it] address: Dalt Vila Barrio de la Penya y de la Bomba Edit This These colorful quarters is the center of Ibiza’s pulsating life, crowded and busy 24 hours a day. type: Streets World66 rating: [rate it] Dalt Vila Edit This Enclosed by the old town-walls Ibiza's historical center is located at the top of the hill and offers a beautiful panorama. It has a great variety of all sorts of bars and is especially known for its never ending clubbing scene, which starts at sunset and continues until sunrise the next day- or probably until the last day of your holiday. Maybe it’s because the island is too small for all the people to sleep at the same time, so the tourists work in shifts, to explore the fascinating life on the isle. Most clubs open around midnight, but you don’t really want to be the first one in. Around two it’s beginning to get interesting, but also harder to get access. You can kill time on one of the terraces of the pre-club bars near the harbour or taking a stroll around the city. Especially the old quarter is a sight with all the night owls awakening and preparing for their day. The area around the cathedral is the roam of the gay community. The main attraction of town is of course the beach promenade which takes you all the way up to Mariner's beach. From here a pretty, peaceful river-walk meanders up to the Roman bridge which is now being carefully restored. Midway, a footbridge spanning the river gives onto another pretty paved walkway leading to the little beach of Calo de S'Alga at Siesta with it's small-village atmosphere. Anybody visiting will have the roads and beaches almost to themselves and will be able to observe the mad rush of bar owners and shopkeepers sprucing up their places in preparation for the season. Throughout the month there are lots of sporting events planned starting with the Iron Man Triathlon in Santa Eulalia on the 9th. From the 13th to 16th the Ruta del Canal regatta takes place from Castellon to San Antonio and also in those dates you can see the mountain bike Tour of Ibiza based around San Antonio.
